DEVOTIONAL TIMES THAT YOU SHOULD USE FOR YOUR TRIP |

Day 1 – Take a Risk Read: Matthew 14:22-31; Luke 1:37; Mark 10:27 In your journal, answer the following questions: 1. How do you think Peter felt when Jesus told him to get out of the boat? 2. Why did he begin to sink? 3. What happened when he began to sink? 4. Has Jesus ever asked you to “get out of the boat?” When? What happened? 5. When we are “out of the boat”, what is the most important thing to remember? Pray: Pray to God, asking Him to help you know when He wants you to get out of the boat.
Day 2 – Be Filled with the Spirit Read: John 15:1-8, 26-27; Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:22-23 In your journal, answer the following questions: 1. According to Jesus, what is the most important thing for us to do if we are to work effectively for Him? 2. If Jesus isn’t physically with us, how are we supposed to stay in contact with Him? 3. How do we go about being “filled by the Spirit”? 4. What happens when the Holy Spirit fills us? Describe a time when you were prompted to behave in a spirit-filled manner. Pray: Pray that God would fill you today (and every day) with His Spirit, and that you would bear spiritual fruit.
Day 3 - Love One Another Read: Psalm 133; John 17:20-23; Ephesians 4:1-3; 1 John 4:7-12 In your journal, answer the following questions: 1. According to Jesus, how will the world know that Jesus is God’s Son? 2. What are some of the qualities we are to show according to the passage in Ephesians? 3. Why should we love our Christian brothers and sisters? 4. Describe some practical, action-oriented ways you can “love your brother”. Pray: Pray that God would change an attitude in you that keeps you from loving your Christian brothers and sisters.
Day 4 – Be on Guard Read: 1 Peter 5:8-9; John 16:33; James 4:7-8; Hebrews 4:15-16 In your journal, answer the following questions: 1. Why do you think Satan is constantly “on the prowl”? 2. What should we do when we feel we are under attack? 3. Why can we go to Jesus for help? 4. Describe a time you felt like the devil was attacking you. How did you react? Has Satan attacked you on this trip? Pray: Pray that God would protect our group from all of Satan’s attacks.
Day 5 – Be Obedient Read: Deuteronomy 10:12-13; 1 Samuel 15:20-23; John 14:23-24 In your journal, answer the following questions: 1. Is our obedience to God important? Why? 2. In what ways can we show obedience to God? 3. Why does God desire obedience over sacrifices? 4. Describe a time you were disobedient to God. Describe a time when you obeyed God’s leading in your life. How did you feel both times? Pray: Pray that God would make you an obedient child of His and that you would hear Him speak when He has a specific task for you.
Day 6 – Be a Servant Read: Mark 10:35-45; Ephesians 6:7-8 In your journal, answer the following questions: 1. Do we ever ask Jesus to do “whatever we ask”? Why is this wrong? 2. What is meant by “and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all”? 3. How can we be a servant to all? List some practical ways. 4. How can we be a servant to all and not be a doormat at the same time? Pray: Pray that God would give you a servant’s heart and a willingness to serve others, especially those who are not so loveable.
